THE ROLE OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY IN ACHIEVING COMMUNICATION EFFICIENCY IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT: This study examined the role of modern technology in achieving communication efficiency in Nigeria with special reference to OSBC and Nigerian Tribune, Osun State. Specifically, the study  examine  examine whether computer and internet has enhanced news gathering of broadcasting media. The study also know if internet has affected the performance of the Nigerian journalists. The study further examine whether mass media depend on internet as a source of information. More so, the study study the negative effects of internet on OSBC and Nigerian Tribune. Lastly, the study examine whether modern technology has captured the audience of the two media organizations.. A total of 30 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analyzed, the findings revealed that computer technology enhance the news gathering of mass media. Also, the internet affected the performance of the Nigerian journalists. More so,  journalists depend on internet as a major source of information. Furthermore, Internet contribute positively to the operation of mass media. Lastly, there are negative effect of Internet on mass media performance. The study thereby recommends that government in partnership with media organizations should provide enabling infrastructure so that journalists can leverage on them in their profession. Also, media organizations should make provisions for Internet facilities in all their offices for the members of staff in order to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness in new media landscape both locally and globally. Furthermore, staff training in current applications that are useful for broadcasting should be adopted and done from time to time by media houses to enable their workers align their day to day operations with international best practices.
